I used to work at the same company with PHP guy Andrei Zmievski, but never took the time to get to know him. I should have, because it turns out he's great at Mr. T jokes, which of course is a key sign of good character.
Andrei blogged about how he'd be unlikely to hire Merry Maids to clean his pad because of his desire for privacy: "... it all comes down to evaluating how much of a crimp this might put into my lifestyle versus the benefits I gain from not having to clean the place myself."
Me: "So a key part of your lifestyle is leaving your credit-card bills and Mr. T gold chain collection in plain view? :-)"
Andrei: "I pity the fool who takes the chains."
Ha!

The problem that plagues many Blogs is link spam. Google's current ranking algorithm places a lot of weight on links. Thus links are important and desired by companies trying to rank well on Google. Link popularity is critical with Google - whereas search engines like Inktomi - feeding MSN, HotBot and soon Yahoo - rank websites based on text, keyword density, site structure and other on-page factors. One of the quickest ways a Blog owner could stop this link spam is to disable HTML in the comments and disable the live URL link - unless of course Google quits ranking based on links and instead starts placing more weight to on-page factors even business cards. Immunize your blog and disable HTML.
ReplyDeleteLink Spam? I like the fact that Bloggers have power and influence on the popular internet search engine. If companies supply great web sites that bloggers find useful then links will be placed to them and raise thier google rating :-)
